Park High School students enjoy a day at Stanmore
Stanmore College was delighted to welcome over 90 Year 11 students to taste a day in the life of a College student on Thursday, 9th December. Following Covid safety temperature checks and registration on arrival, the taster day started with a welcome to their local college and an outline of the format of the day which would include workshops from the majority of subject areas across college. The aim was to give the students a real insight into what studying at College was like and to check out what study programmes suited them best and ease their concerns and the transition from school to college.
Activities were soon underway and included building drones, business and sports’ quizzes, amazing art and media projects/activities, practically seeing how lateral flow tests and blood tests work, different ways of thinking about how children engage and simulation baby dolls, the benefits fo activities on improved concentration and building patience. Competitions were included (quiz winners) with winners announced and prizes given at the end of the day.
Refreshments were provided at break time and the local High School students enjoyed pizzas and juice at lunch time.
After experiencing and taking part in all the workshops, hearing from staff, and seeing different parts of the College site and its resources while doing so, the students were given a brief presentation on the Government’s new T level qualifications.
Finally, goodie bags were distributed and the well-behaved Park High School students completed evaluation forms. Comments made by the prospective students included:
