Stanmore Studios Filmmaking Workshop

On 17 February Stanmore Studios hosted the first of its 2025 Media taster sessions focused on Filmmaking.

Students from high schools across the borough were invited to take part in a two-day filmmaking workshop. The programme was designed to help them start building their skills and portfolios in preparation for college applications in Creative Media.

Day 1
Students were introduced to cinematography, storyboarding, and professional film equipment. They worked collaboratively as a film crew, shooting a scene on location based on a live screenplay with actors. The shoot lasted three hours, giving students a hands-on taste of what it’s like to work on a real film set: collaborating as a team, problem-solving on the go, and of course, sharing a few laughs between takes!

Day 2
Students focused on non-linear video editing, where students learned to operate industry-standard editing software. Each participant edited their own version of the two-minute scene, cutting it down from over 60 minutes of raw footage.

The intensive workshop offered a fantastic opportunity for students to try out new media practices and begin developing practical skills for future careers in the creative industries. One student, Noah, said: “The workshop was great fun and we made something we could be proud of.

We look forward to welcoming more students to our upcoming sessions in May and July! Stay tuned for registration details!
