Lisa, Railway Engineering Skills Bootcamp

After being made redundant, I knew I needed a more secure, long-term career. Jobcentre Plus suggested the rail industry, and I enrolled on the Rail Engineering Bootcamp at Stanmore College.

The course has strengthened both my confidence and practical skills, from operating rail equipment to understanding on-site processes. Even with my experience as a steel fixer on HS2, the training has expanded my technical knowledge.

Meeting employers has been a real highlight. They take our progress seriously and offer valuable industry insight. If you’re considering the course, I’d encourage you to go for it. It’s a clear route into the rail sector, and I’ve seen women progress through the ranks. I’m determined to be one of them.
