The Art and Design with Communication UAL Diploma (and Extended Diploma) Level 3 is a creative and practical course.
It is the perfect course for you if you are an aspiring artist, designer, and innovator ready to explore a wide range of art and design disciplines. You will work on exciting briefs that incorporate interior design, fine art, and elements of architecture, while developing your skills across different materials, techniques, and processes.
Throughout the course, you will receive regular feedback to support your progress and build a strong, individual creative voice. In the second year of the Extended Diploma, you will undertake a Final Major Project where you choose your own focus, building on what you have already learned.
The full qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels and prepares you for university, employment, or apprenticeships. Our tutors will help you to create a standout portfolio and support your UCAS application. Our previous students have progressed into fields such as fine art, interior design, illustration, product design, and spatial or 3D design.
This qualification is officially the UAL Awarding Body Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication.

- Progression
You can progress to further study, employment, or apply for an apprenticeship.
- Units
Year 1 Diploma (first year): Units 1 -3
Year 2 Extended Diploma (second year): Units 4-6 - Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grades 4 or above, including English and Maths.
Or, relevant UAL or BTEC Level 2 Diploma at a Merit grade (or an equivalent qualification). - Assessment
Year 1 Diploma (first year): Final project set by tutors.
Year 2 Extended Diploma (second year): Self-directed final project in chosen area of focus. - Materials
You will be asked to purchase sketchbooks for your units.
You will need to purchase a range of art materials throughout the year.
There will be a fee to cover entry to museums or travel costs for educational trips. - Facilities
Our Art and Design department is a vibrant, creative space with two large, light-filled studios designed to inspire your artistic journey. You’ll have access to a wide range of industry-standard equipment, including a kiln for ceramics, a laser cutter, a 3D printer, iPads, and essential woodworking tools, providing everything you need to bring your boldest ideas to life.
