Course outline
This qualification is ideal for learners who want to develop an understanding of the essential skills required to work successfully in a business environment, and gives them an understanding of business culture and responsibilities. This qualification also allows learners to develop the skills required to solve problems, communicate and work effectively with others, and gives them the opportunity to learn how to manage and improve their own performance in a business environment.
Every type of business environment requires the ability to be organised, to use office equipment, work with others, deal with customers, answer the telephone, write letters, complete business documents and much more.
Over the course you will develop a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the areas of enterprise, finance, marketing and team building in business.
Entry requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including one in English or Maths (this will not prevent entry to the programme where learners demonstrate appropriate behaviours and attitudes towards their English and Maths development), or a relevant Level 1 qualification, such as a BTEC Level 1 Certificate/Diploma in Workskills, plus an ability to operate at Level 1 in either English or Maths.
Or
a relevant Level 1 qualification, such as a BTEC Level 1 Cert/Diploma in Workskills, plus an ability to operate at Level 1 in either English or Maths.

Learners aged 19+ may be eligible for funding if they have an EHCP
What can it lead to?
Having completed this course students will be ideally placed to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Public Services or BTEC Level 3 Business courses where they can develop their skills further. Alternatively, this course is good preparation for entering the workplace environment.
What are the course outcomes?
The aim of Study Programmes is ‘to maximise the potential of young people to progress to higher
education and/or skilled employment by ensuring that vocational routes to higher education and
employment are seen as high quality and a genuine alternative to academic routes’.
This will mean that as a 16-19 year-old you’ll be offered high quality Study Programmes aimed at giving
you the best opportunity to move into further education or employment.
Who the course is aimed at
The Pearson BTEC Workskills suite has been designed for 16–18-year-olds to reflect, develop, and support the employability of learners. Each level enables a flexible program that develops learners' skills and aligns with their intended outcomes or destinations. This allows for the creation of a study program that combines skills and knowledge to provide a realistic learning experience that emulates the 21st-century workplace.
Course content
This is a one-year programme and is the equivalent to two GCSEs. Some units may be reviewed to suit students and their own personal development. Course content will be delivered in a range of different formats and will allow opportunity to apply learning in practical activities such as role plays and work experience. Units of Work Numeracy for the workplace Qualities and transferable skills for work Self-assessment skills Developing your CV Applying for a job Personal presentation for the workplace Preparing for the recruitment process Preparing for work placement Learning from work placement Working in a team Developing personal skills for leadership Practising leadership skills with others.
How will you be assessed?
Assessment is 100% coursework. Each unit must be completed to a minimum pass standard in order to pass the course. Tasks will include a individual and group based work. The assessments will involve producing work that would be presented in a manner that would be acceptable in the workplace. IT and handwritten assessments will be included in the course along with business presentations and displays.
