Owner of Steven Jarvis visits business students
Steven Jarvis came to the college on the 21st of February 2023. He spoke about his experience running his Estate Agent company, Benjamin Stevens. He first got into the property industry when his friend helped him get a job at one when he was younger. He later opened his own which now covers property management, block management, commercial sales & lettings as well as private investment.
Stevens Top tips to succeed:
- Be organised and schedule everything
- Be consistent
- Keep focused – no phones!
Steven stated that he thinks being a perfectionist is not a good thing when starting a business as it leads to procrastination. So instead, he said ‘just start the business and learn as you go! Mistakes will happen but you will learn from them’
Steven advised students to search out opportunities for work experience with a company that will give them the opportunities to learn and allow them develop on their own initiative. He said that he once received a message via LinkedIn and gave someone an interview because they had showed a willingness to make the effort.
