Art students trip to Brick lane & Gilbert & George Gallery

New Stanmore College students enrolled on our Art courses always have the opportunity to attend a trip to London’s Brick Lane in the East End. Brick Lane is famous for its curry houses and historic architectural heritage but most of all the vibrant ever changing street art.

This year, as well as walking the streets Brick lane and the surrounding area, the level 2 & 3 students visited a very new gallery opened by the esteemed artists, Gilbert & George. Gilbert & George have been active on the British art scene since the mid 1960’s and they are known for their brightly coloured graphic-style artworks. In April 2023 Gilbert & George opened the Gilbert & George Centre in Heneage Street, London E1, to showcase their work in regular exhibitions and welcome visitor for free.

While the Stanmore students were busy viewing the large-scale artworks, the group was informed that the artists would like to meet the students and take any questions. The students were not shy in conversing with the artists and discussed topics as diverse as the artists points of inspiration to their beliefs in an after-life.
