The Teaching (Further Education and Skills) NCFE Diploma Level 5 is ideal if you are currently teaching or you want to pursue a teaching role in the Further Skills & Education sector.
This qualification provides you with the knowledge to teach in a variety of settings, focusing primarily on practical experience to prepare you for the profession. You will explore essential topics such as understanding learners, professional teaching practices, and effective use of digital pedagogies.
This programme requires a minimum of 250 placement hours, with at least 150 hours of teaching practice. This can include class-based teaching your in subject area, remote delivery, and other activities such as planning, team meetings, and Certified Professional Development (CPD) training attendance.
You will gain experience in at least two teaching locations and complete a minimum of 10 assessed observations. To successful complete this qualification 120 credits are required. Mandatory units cover teaching methods, understanding learners, the role of teachers, professional practice, and digital pedagogy. Optional units allow you to tailor your learning and have options such as action research or specialist delivery techniques.
The programme is ideal if you are starting a career in teaching or training, looking to progress in your current role, or have completed prior qualifications in this field. On this course you will develop the competence, confidence, and skills to teach a diverse range of learners effectively. The experience will prepare you for a rewarding career in education.

- Progression
You can progress to employment in further education colleges, with adult and community education providers, for offender education, with work-based learning providers, within the third/voluntary sector, and at independent training organisations.
You can progress to further study by applying for Learning and Skills status (QTLS). QTLS is equivalent to but distinct from QTS (Qualified Teacher Status for ages 5-11 or 11-18 in schools). - Entry Requirements
Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or, 6 months of relevant teaching experience.
Level 3 qualification in the subject you want to teach.
Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
Ability to study at Level 5.
Competence in digital skills.
Minimum of 150 hours of teaching spread evenly over the duration of the course. (The college does not offer a placement service, you are responsible for the planning, delivery, and assessment of learning.) - Units
120 credits (75 mandatory, and 45 optional).
Minimum of 61 credits must be at Level 5 or higher. - Assessment
Competence-based qualification.
Internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence.
Externally assessed for quality assurance of teaching practice in the workplace.
Complete minimum of 150 hours of teaching where you’ll take responsibility for planning, delivering, and assessing learning. (This can be spread evenly throughout the course.) - Class Location
This is a hybrid course with scheduled evening classes that must be attended in person, in Stanmore, or online. (Please note that this is not a ‘self-study distance learning course’, your full participation in all scheduled sessions is essential.)
