From Participants to Leaders: Amazon Project Students Become Mentors

Students who took part in an Amazon project last year are now using their experience to support the next group of T Level students, developing valuable leadership and mentoring skills along the way.

Last year, a group of our T Level students took part in an exciting three-week project with Amazon, gaining hands-on experience of working together to tackle a real-world business challenge. Following the successful completion of the project, students received T-shirts and certificates from Amazon in recognition of their contribution and achievements. Now, they are taking their experience one step further by becoming mentors for a new group of students taking part in the project this year.

Sharing experience and building confidence

Through the Leaders in the Making initiative, last year’s participants will share their experiences, offer advice and help new students understand what to expect. As former participants, they can provide practical advice on areas such as teamwork, communication, meeting deadlines and working on a project with a major employer. Their first-hand experience can also help new students feel more prepared and confident as they begin their own project. This gives students another valuable way to learn, not only from their teachers and industry professionals, but from peers who have already completed the experience themselves.

Developing skills beyond the classroom

Becoming a mentor also gives last year’s students the opportunity to put their own skills into practice. Supporting others can help them develop leadership, communication, confidence and mentoring skills, while giving them experience of taking responsibility and sharing their knowledge. It also creates a culture of peer support, where students can learn from each other and pass on what they have gained to the next cohort. It is fantastic to see our students continuing to build on their industry experience and taking an active role in supporting others.

From learning to leading, our students are developing the skills, experience and confidence to take their next steps into the world of work.
