Course outline
This is a qualification for anyone wanting to pursue a career as a barber, based on the barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS). It is recognised by the UK's leading barbering association (British Barbering Association - BBA) and hairdressing professional body (The Hairdressing Council) as being fit for purpose to prepare you to become a junior barber.
During this course you will cover all the areas required in the industry, including; health and safety; client consultation; shampoo and conditioning hair; cutting hair; cutting facial hair and promoting products and services to clients in a salon. You will also complete a variety of optional units including; reception duties men’s styling.
This qualification will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to enable you to advise and consult with clients. This includes the type of haircut and facial hair shaping the way they want, but just as importantly, what is suitable for them. You will also learn how to work in a safe manner throughout the service protecting both yourself and your clients.
Entry requirements
You will need GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4/C. You will also need to complete a successful skills test and interview to confirm your suitability for the course.

YEAR 1 Modules:

- Introduction to child development
- Reflective practice & early years pedagogy
- Children’s digital learning
- Inclusion & wellbeing
- Working with families and caregivers
- Global perspectives.
YEAR 2 Modules:
- Developing pedagogies for artwork with young children
- Children’s voice
- Researching with young children
- Contemporary issues in child development
- Early Years environments
- Leading early years practice.
Modules are subject to change.
How will you be assessed?
Assessment is varied practical and work-based projects. This course does not contain a specific work experience component but many of the skills you will learn are essential to employability. If needed, our Employability Team can help you find local work placements that will support the course.

Once accepted on the course, you will need to purchase a Barbering Kit and a Barbering uniform.
