Course Content

An AAT Accounting qualification is an internationally recognised professional accounting qualification based on practical, real-life knowledge that can be use from day one. In the UK the accounting sector is worth approximately £6 billion, with over 7500 organisations and just under 50,000 employees.

Accountants are required not only to manage the finances of organisations, ranging from sole traders through to large corporate companies, but also for decision-making for the business, based on their accounting expertise.

Students should choose the Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting as it maximises opportunities for employment within a wider accountancy context. In developing this qualification, AAT has carried out extensive consultation with and received input from a wide variety of stakeholders, including industry experts, employers and training providers. AAT qualifications benefit from being globally recognised and they’re valued by leading employers, from small high street firms to large accountancy businesses.

The mandatory units are:

  • Applied Management Accounting
  • Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements
  • Internal Accounting Systems and Controls.

The optional units are:

  • Business Tax
  • Personal Tax
  • Audit and Assurance
  • Cash and Financial Management
  • Credit and Debt Management

Course Outcomes

The Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting covers high-level accounting and finance topics and tasks. Students will develop a wide range of financial management skills and applications and will gain competencies in drafting financial statements for limited companies, recommending accounting systems strategies, and constructing and presenting complex management accounting reports. Students will also learn about specialist areas such as tax, auditing, credit and debit management and cash and financial management. 

The qualification will be run over 45-week period.

During term time, there will be approximately 6 hours of study per week, including evening that allows you to balance study with full/part-time employment. The course structure offers a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorial, and independent study, delivered face-to-face and complimented with on-line learning. The course is designed to be practical as possible and is taught predominately through examining real-life scenarios and case studies, drawing on student's own experiences.

Progression

Once qualified, students can apply for full AAT membership, which will allow them to use the designatory letters MAAT after their name.

Entry Requirements

Completion of AAT L3 with Distinction grade and ideally working in accounting. 

(Exceptions to entry requirements onto our level 4 qualifications may be considered)

Assessment

Students will be assessed through formal online tests which are set by AAT at the centre.

Equipment

Students will need to have a valid AAT registration for the duration of the course.
