Work Experience for ASDAN Students
Stanmore College work experience team organised a special event to give fair opportunity to our ASDAN Cert in Employability L1 students to gain employability skills.
The event was organised in collaboration with Harrow Council and Spark Charity. Between 15-19 July 2024, a total of 8 students attended, and the importance of the event was to give fair chance to all students in gaining employability skills. Our students worked at Northwick Park Hospital, Middlesex Hospital, Harrow Council and at Woodlands school.
Students enjoyed doing the work and parents were elated about their children having the opportunity to experience working. They were all very happy and gained confidence. One of the parents works for NHS, and she was so thankful that her son will work with the NHS for a week. “A big thank you for giving him this opportunity” she said.
Angela, the Work Experience Manager at Spark said that the emotion behind the feedback from parents reinforced the importance of SEND students accessing such provisions. Students were given the opportunity to reflect on their learning and consider their next steps. Each student had to present back to the rest of the group their ideas. Angela said: “They all fully engaged and did an excellent job.” They were shown how to apply for apprenticeships or internships with the council, and they were encouraged to get in touch in the future if they need information or support.
Students were presented with certificates showing that they had successfully completed their work experience with Harrow Council.
