T Level Accounting Students Discover Blockchain and Cryptocurrency
T Level Accounting students deepened their understanding of emerging financial technologies through two closely aligned sessions, exploring how blockchain and cryptocurrency are reshaping modern business, finance and future accounting careers.
On 14th January 2026 T Level Accounting students took part in an engaging virtual webinar titled Demystifying Blockchain: An Introduction to Distributed Ledger Technology. The online event was delivered by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF). The session provided a clear and accessible introduction to one of the most disruptive technologies influencing today’s business and financial sectors.
The webinar introduced students to the core principles of blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT), breaking down complex concepts in a way that was easy to understand. Learners explored how blockchain works, why it is considered secure and transparent, and how it is increasingly being adopted across a range of industries. Particular emphasis was placed on applications within business and finance, as well as links to sectors such as media, artificial intelligence (AI) and infrastructure, highlighting the growing relevance of digital innovation within accounting-related roles.
As the session progressed, students were guided through a more detailed exploration of the technical foundations of blockchain. This helped deepen their understanding of not only the concept itself, but also its practical operation and wider implications. The session broadened students’ awareness of how digital transformation is reshaping financial systems and the skills required of future accounting professionals.
The learning was further reinforced the following day when students attended a WizeUp session onsite delivered in partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation. The session featured a guest speaker with expertise in cryptocurrency, who expanded on the theoretical knowledge gained from the ETF webinar by providing practical, real-world examples. Topics included digital currencies, their role within modern financial markets, and the direct relationship between cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
The close alignment of the two sessions gave students an excellent opportunity to connect theory with practice. Concepts that may initially have seemed abstract were brought to life through real-world applications, supporting students in consolidating their understanding and recognising the relevance of blockchain and cryptocurrency within the accounting profession.
The experience proved to be a valuable enrichment activity within the T Level Accounting curriculum, enhancing students’ awareness of emerging technologies, digital finance and the evolving business landscape they are likely to encounter in their future careers.
