From Stanmore to the Games Industry: Alumni Expert Returns for Industry Workshop

Alumni student Anthony James, now a Senior Financial Analyst at global indie publisher Devolver Digital, returned to Stanmore Studios on 10th November to run an industry workshop for Media Animation and Game Design students. The event was a standout moment for the Media Department.

Students gained insight into the inner workings of a games publisher and explored the many factors involved in releasing a video game beyond the creative design work they already know. They then took part in a practical task, stepping into Anthony’s role to decide whether to analyse and assess an investment opportunity for a potential game project, weighing up the considerations a publisher must assess.

Reflecting on the day, Anthony said:“It was great to be back at Stanmore College after so many years. So much has changed, yet so much feels the same! The College still has the same buzz and excitement it had when I was a student, and it was fantastic to engage with the next generation of games designers and animators. The students asked excellent questions, offered strong ideas, and grasped the concepts exceptionally well.”

Students and staff were delighted to welcome Anthony back and are grateful for the insight and experience he shared with the next generation of creatives.
