How Our Work Experience Team Engages Students with Talks and Charity Events

Recognising this, our Work Experience Team plays a pivotal role in organising insightful talks by industry professionals and steering engaging charity events. Through these initiatives, students gain practical knowledge, build essential skills, and contribute to their communities, leaving a lasting impact on their personal and professional development.

British Airways Apprenticeship Talk

On October 22, the Work Experience Team hosted an online talk about British Airways Apprenticeships for Business Level 3 and Engineering Level 3 students. The session introduced attendees to exciting career paths within the aviation industry and encouraged them to consider applying for the program. Students found the talk informative and inspiring, with many eager to take the next step in their career journey.

Employer Talk with Bouygues

Year 1 Engineering students had the opportunity to attend an Apprenticeship Employer Talk delivered by Kathryn Ridyard from Bouygues, a leading construction company. Kathryn shared valuable insights into the construction industry, outlining various roles and career paths available. Students particularly appreciated meeting a key professional working on a project at their own campus, making the experience even more impactful.


NHS Work Experience and Apprenticeship Talk

Health & Social Care students recently benefited from an engaging NHS talk, providing insights into work experience and apprenticeship opportunities in healthcare. This midterm break, ten students will further their practical learning with placements at Central Middlesex and Northwick Park Hospitals. Such initiatives demonstrate the Work Experience Team’s commitment to opening doors for students in the healthcare sector.


GlaxoSmithKline PLC Workshop

Level 2 Science and Engineering students embarked on a six-week career program in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) PLC and Sparks Charity. The program focused on STEM career opportunities and employability skills. Selected students will visit GSK headquarters and participate in a mentoring program, with finalists earning a week-long work experience placement at GSK. The workshop proved to be an inspiring experience, with students enjoying valuable interactions with Sparks representatives and GSK apprentices.


Browne Construction Employers Talk

Sophia Bruce, Learning and Development Advisor at Browne Construction, recently visited Stanmore College to deliver an Employer Talk to Level 3 Engineering students. Her session provided practical advice on apprenticeship opportunities and career pathways in the construction industry. The Work Experience Team emphasized the importance of these talks, stating, “Hosting industry experts like Sophia equips our students with the knowledge and preparation they need to succeed in the job market.

Cancer Research Fundraising Event

In a meaningful display of community engagement, the Business Department, supported by the Work Experience Team, organised a fundraising event for the local Cancer Research branch. The event featured inspiring guest speakers, including Ketan Dattani, CEO of Buckingham Futures, and Syed Jawad, CEO of The Film Studio, who shared personal stories about the impact of cancer. Employers praised students for their fundraising efforts and enthusiasm. This collaborative event highlighted the College’s commitment to combining education with social responsibility.

Sparks Post Work Experience Workshop Success

The Sparks Charity Team conducted a Post Work Experience Workshop with 30 students who had participated in work placements during the October mid-term break. The session proved highly impactful, enabling students to reflect on their experiences, identify newly acquired skills, and update their CVs. Valuable feedback was also gathered to improve future work experience opportunities.
