A glimpse into the Royal Opera House for T Level Media

In preparation for the new T Level Media course, we got a behind the scenes glimpse into the world of theatre and media at the esteemed Royal Opera House.

Our T Level Media – Content Creation Production and Broadcast course is launching in September 2025, and our Work Placement Industry Leader, Ruhina Mehdi, had the incredible opportunity to visit the Royal Opera House. Organised by the Education and Training Foundation, this insightful visit was designed to give placement and teaching staff a deeper understanding of the media and creative industries, covering everything from structure and roles to backstage operations.

Highlights of the visit included:

  • A presentation on the Royal Opera House’s rich history by a wonderful host, Sarah Waterman.
  • A guided tour through public and behind-the-scenes areas including: Visitor Experience, Security, and Technical department.
  • Watching a live rehearsal in action.
  • A full backstage tour featuring Stage and Set Design, Wigs and Costume, Props, IT, Marketing, and other departments.
  • Meeting with staff from each department and hearing about their career journeys.
  • Observing a complete stage transformation for the evening performance.
  • A Q&A panel on “How to get a job in Theatre”, incredibly valuable for career planning.

Ruhina said: “This entire visit was an eye-opening experience and a brilliant example of how real industry insight can shape the future of education. We look forward to taking students for a similar tour in January 2026, and are hopeful to the potential of possible future work experience placements!”
