Reflecting on Holocaust Memorial Day

Today, on Holocaust Memorial Day, we take a moment to reflect on one of the darkest chapters in human history, the Holocaust.

It is a day to honour the memory of the six million Jewish people, as well as countless others, who lost their lives to unimaginable cruelty and hatred.

This year’s theme, “For a Better Future”, encourages us to reflect on how we can all contribute to building a more compassionate and inclusive world. It serves as a reminder that, while we cannot change the past, we have the power and responsibility to shape a better future through our actions today.

As a college community, we are uniquely positioned to learn from history, educate others, and foster a culture of understanding and empathy. By remembering the past, we can work together towards a future where respect, kindness, and tolerance are the foundation of our society.

To mark the occasion, students and staff came together to light a candle in remembrance. This simple gesture was a way to show our shared commitment to never forgetting the past and to honour those affected by the Holocaust.

Our Principal, Annette Cast, shared a thoughtful message about the importance of learning from history, while staff members read poetry that touched on themes of loss, resilience, and hope.

Let today inspire us to take meaningful steps towards a world where everyone is treated with dignity, compassion, and humanity.
