Exploring Cybersecurity and Cryptography with Lloyds Banking Group
T Level Accounting students, alongside AAT learners, took part in an engaging virtual event hosted by Lloyds Banking Group Early Careers on 13th January 2026. The session, Careers Live! Future Ready: Cyber & Cryptography Careers, explored how emerging technologies are shaping the financial sector and influencing careers within accounting and financial services.
The interactive event featured industry professionals from Lloyds Banking Group who shared insight into the rapidly evolving fields of cyber security and cryptography. Students learned how banks protect financial data, prevent fraud and respond to increasingly complex cyber threats, highlighting the importance of digital resilience and regulatory compliance within modern financial organisations.
Although cyber security and cryptography are not traditionally associated with accounting, the session demonstrated how closely these areas are now connected. Students gained an understanding of how accountants and finance professionals work alongside cyber teams to manage risk, ensure compliance and safeguard sensitive information, reinforcing the growing importance of digital awareness alongside core accounting knowledge.
Speakers, including Joseph Johnson, Chief Security Officer at Lloyds Banking Group, outlined a wide range of career pathways, from cyber analysts and cryptography specialists to hybrid roles combining finance, data and technology. Students also explored the key skills employers value, such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail and ethical decision-making—skills closely, which aligned with their T Level Accounting studies.
The session also provided practical guidance on employability skills linked to AAT units, with advice on gaining relevant experience, developing future-ready skills and preparing for careers in the financial sector. Students were encouraged to remain curious about technology and stay informed about industry developments.
Many students described the event as eye-opening and motivating, expanding their understanding of career opportunities within a digitally evolving finance sector. Hearing directly from professionals at one of the UK’s leading banking groups helped bring classroom learning to life.
This event forms part of the College’s ongoing commitment to prepare students for the world of work with meaningful employer engagement. Stanmore College is grateful to Lloyds Banking Group for delivering such an informative and inspiring session and for supporting students as they work towards careers in finance, accounting and beyond.
