Stanmore Students Step Into the Magic of Film at Warner Bros. Studios

Thirty students from our Creative Media courses attended the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Creative Careers Fair on 30th September. The Fair was a brand-new, first-of-its-kind event at the famous studio, set against the backdrop of the iconic sets from the various Harry Potter films.

The careers fair represented a new initiative by Warner Bros. to reignite interest in the film industry and build a bridge between young learners and professionals. In addition to visiting the sets, the students had the chance to engage with behind-the-scenes production exhibits, talk with experienced industry veterans and participate in mini workshops on prop design, costume weathering, foley design and more.

The occasion was marked by an introduction from actor Warwick Davis, a mainstay of the Harry Potter series famed for his role as Professor Flitwick, before the students were set free to explore the tour and its various exhibits.

Julie Green, Education and Learning Manager at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London said, “We want to help young people realise there’s a place for them in the industry, whether they’re interested in technology, design, movement, storytelling, or science. There’s a need for fresh, diverse talent behind the camera, but children cannot be what they cannot see, so we’re committed to opening their eyes to the roles needed behind the camera.”

In attendance with the students was Joella Clubbs, Curriculum Manager for Media, Art and IT who remarked “I felt the event was well organised and an excellent opportunity for our students to meet and talk with industry professionals; to get an insight in to working within the industry. Additionally, they got to explore the Harry Potter Studios Tour first-hand and witness the complexities of creating films.”

Students thoroughly enjoyed the careers fair. Victoria, UAL Media Level 3 student, said “I loved the dragon part at the end of the tour. It was great when we got to the bank set, I used to be scared of the goblins when I was little. Now, seeing it all in real life was so cool.”

UAL Level 3 Media student Eeman said “This place is great. There’s so much you can see, they put so much effort in to it. I loved the behind the scenes world of prosthetics for the creatures, and how life-like all the characters are. Seeing how they’re made was really impressive!”
