ASDAN Employability Interviews
We are excited to announce that for the third consecutive year, Ruhina Mehdi, our Work Placement Coordinator/Industry Leader successfully conducted mock interviews for our ASDAN Employability students.
These mock sessions are not just an essential part of our students’ training, they are a vital opportunity to help them bridge the gap between the classroom and the world of work. This year’s mock interviews were particularly special as they were designed to prepare students for the next crucial step in their employability journey, equipping them with the confidence and skills necessary to thrive in real-world job situations.
Preparing for Success: Applications and Interviews
In the lead-up to the mock interviews, our students worked diligently on their application forms, reflecting on their skills, strengths, and personal goals. This foundational step is key in helping them understand the importance of presenting themselves effectively and professionally. By focusing on their personal statement and job application skills, the students had the chance to tailor their applications to specific roles, mimicking the application process they will soon face in the workforce.
Once the applications were submitted, it was time for the real test: the interview. Students gathered for the mock interview day, ready to face an experience that closely resembled a real job interview scenario. From questions about their qualifications to discussing their strengths and weaknesses, the students navigated the questions with poise, showing impressive professionalism and an understanding of the skills required for success in their future careers.
The Role of Technology: Recorded Sessions for Better Reflection
A key addition this year was the recording of each mock interview. This innovative approach allowed students to reflect on their performance in a way that was more personal and constructive. After the interview, students will be able to watch the recording, giving them an opportunity to assess their body language, tone, and responses. This kind of self-reflection is invaluable as it helps students identify areas for improvement, boosts their self-awareness, and enables them to refine their communication skills for future success.
The feedback they received from both the interviewer and the recorded sessions themselves will play a major role in helping them grow as confident, competent candidates.
Confidence in Action: Students Shine in Mock Interviews
What stood out most this year was the remarkable level of confidence displayed by our students. They approached the interviews with maturity and professionalism that belied their years. Their answers were thoughtful, clear, and demonstrated a solid understanding of the work environment and what would be expected of them. Many students even stepped out of their comfort zones, delivering responses that were well-structured and compelling.
This is a testament to the dedication and hard work put in by both the students and their instructors. Teachers Michael Crosdale and Keith William deserve special recognition for the passion and commitment they’ve shown in preparing these students for success. Their tireless work in ensuring that the students were well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge was evident throughout the mock interview process. From guiding students through the application forms to coaching them on interview techniques, Michael and Keith truly embodied the essence of excellent teaching.
