Accelerating Action: Stanmore College Marks IWD 2025
What is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. It also serves as a call to action to accelerate gender parity. Around the world, people come together to recognise women’s contributions and advocate for equality.
Observed annually on 8th March, IWD is a key date to:
- Celebrate women’s achievements.
- Raise awareness and educate others about gender equality.
- Advocate for positive change to advance women’s opportunities.
- Campaign for faster progress towards gender parity.
- Support fundraising efforts for women-focused charities.
The IWD 2025 Campaign Focus
At Stanmore College, we recognise the significance of International Women’s Day 2025 and its call to Accelerate Action towards gender equality.
Current data from the World Economic Forum suggests that, at the current pace, full gender parity may not be achieved until 2158—nearly five generations from now. As an educational institution committed to inclusivity and equity, we emphasise the urgency of taking decisive steps to break down systemic barriers and biases that continue to affect women in both personal and professional spheres.
Through education, advocacy, and action, we aim to empower individuals to drive meaningful change and accelerate progress towards a more equal society.
How Stanmore College is Celebrating IWD 2025
At Stanmore College, we celebrate International Women’s Day by highlighting women’s achievements across various fields and engaging our learners in meaningful discussions and activities:
- Health & Social Care – Learners are encouraged to wear purple to symbolise women’s empowerment. The faculty will showcase six influential women in Health, Social Care, and related fields through discussions and talks.
- Maths – Exploring gender equality through data analysis and studying the contributions of female mathematicians.
- English – Engaging with literature by female authors and debating key gender equality topics.
- ESOL – Sharing stories of inspiring women from different cultures and incorporating themed learning materials.
- Business & Accounting – Learners will analyse case studies on the gender paygap, exploring industries with the largest disparities and identifying those that demonstrate best practices in achieving equal pay.
- Pastoral & Enrichment – Providing awareness materials in student areas, hosting a film screening on women’s empowerment, organising a poetry reading event in the Learning Resource Centre, and incorporating International Women’s Day discussions into tutorials.
Let’s celebrate together and champion the achievements of women everywhere!
