National Apprenticeship Week – Care Industry

On the 6th of February 2023, Sarah Wood our careers adviser, Amanda Devlin our lecturer in apprenticeships, and a former Stanmore student spoke to our Level 1 and 2 Health and Social Care students about the different apprenticeships on offer.

There are different types of care work, including:
•    hospital settings
•    residential homes for the elderly
•    mental health

Former student, Sylwia, completed her level 2 apprenticeship in care with us and has since progressed onto a level 4 specialising in chemotherapy day care.

Apprenticeships in the Care industry require different tasks to be completed to successfully achieve the apprenticeship qualification:

-    mandatory units
-    observation
-    witness testimonies
-    written communication
-    oral communication
-    written test
-    verbal professional discussion

Students then qualify for their certificates and can move onto a higher apprenticeship or better job roles. Stanmore College has a careers team available to help any student considering the next move.
