International Women's Day 2022 Celebrations

Last week on 8th March 2022, STEM and Accounting staff and students celebrated International Women’s Day by sharing world foods made by our generous STEM staff. In addition to providing an impressive variety of homemade cuisine, they wore purple to signify justice and dignity and support women’s empowerment worldwide. Purple, green and white are considered the colours of International Women’s Day. These colours have roots in the UK’s Women’s Social and Political Union from the early 1900’s. The purple signifies justice and dignity; green symbolises hope; white represents purity.

Attendees took time to devote a special thought for the women and children of Ukraine.

Purple abounded the event to symbolise Feminist Movement.

Bob Pattni, Deputy Principal, congratulated all staff for celebrating the event and thanked all females staff for their contribution to the Stanmore College. Lois Vassell, Vice-Principal, actively participated by wearing a purple shawl and standing, alongside STEM females, proudly exhibiting the Break the Bias hand symbolism. Vik Seeborun, Head of School, congratulated all the females in attendance and rewarded them with bouquets.

Staff and students from Business, Creative Arts and Media embraced the occasion by enjoying a pizza lunch during which several staff members spoke of how they had progressed in their career. Students went on to speak about women who had inspired them and been excellent role models.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Curriculum Manager, Mafa Ardestani and ESOL students wear traditional dress in celebration of women and ethnicities all over the world. Not only did they look fantastic, but it was also a means of forging positive visibility of women from all ethnicities, places of origin and backgrounds.
