Our BTEC Level 2 Sports student, Islsaiah, has shared his thoughts on his experience at Stanmore College.

'My experience was amazing at Stanmore where I studied sports coaching. The teachers themselves are all experienced in sport which helped as they were also able to mentor us as students, help us find jobs, and access opportunities we didn't have before.'

Islsaiah is now going to attend Brunel University to study Sports Exercise Science.

I studied at Pro Direct Academy Luton. I took the NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in sports. What I learned at Pro Direct will allow me to go into university well prepared with a solid base of knowledge around my subject. My teachers were all really helpful and taught me a lot during my two years here.

I enjoyed the course and it allowed me to get into my first choice university doing Sport and Physical Education at the University of Bedfordshire.

My experience studying a sports coaching education programme at Stanmore has been remarkable, the lecturers have been Immense in my development.

Studying at Stanmore College has enabled me to accumulate so many skills such as confidence, leadership, communication, problem-solving, adaptability, decision-making organisation, and many many more.

The experiences I’ve had have been second to none, I have been involved in numerous coaching opportunities which started from my first year at Stanmore College. My period studying at Stanmore college has opened many doors for me.

- I am Hendon’s football club U10s manager and also work with the Hendon youth development.

-I am part of the coaching backroom staff of Hendon’s First team who is currently a semi-professional side competing at step 3 level.

- I am a part-time PE/TA assistant at a primary school.

- on top of that, I am also entering my second year of University at UCFB studying football coaching and management.

I have numerous career pathways and ambitions I would like to attain, my primary focus would be the opportunity to work full-time in a professional academy set up.

Starting a career in fitness was a big risk for me. I’d previously been working as a language teacher but decided to pursue my passion just as the world was about to enter a pandemic. That being said, I couldn’t have made a better decision.

Working in fitness has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me, and it all started at Stanmore College. The amount of support and encouragement provided by the tutors, particularly Georgia, is invaluable. Whether it’s a question of coursework or gaining experience working in actual gyms. Whether it’s a matter of being recognised for hard work or encouraged to go above and beyond. Stanmore College was essential in giving me the work ethic, enthusiasm and knowledge to succeed in the industry.

Today, after several years of experience as a personal trainer, I manage a gym in Central London. My ambition is to open my own gym and studio in the next few years and launch a brand of fitness snacks and foods, and it all starts with my decision to get my Level 2 Gym Instructing qualification at Stanmore College.

Throughout my time doing my personal trainer course at Stanmore College, it opened my eyes into an industry which helps with getting people fit and improving their physical health. Also I found the business side really creative and interesting. I learnt about how to promote yourself and make sure you stand out amongst other personal trainers and also make a living out of what you like doing.

“Thank you for everything this past year and  I am extremely grateful for everything my teacher Georgia Lewis has done for me and it will stay with me for a long time”
