You do not need any qualifications to enrol on Access programmes. However, the tutors will want to be sure that you can benefit from the programme and be able to cope with the future requirements of studying in higher education. You may be asked to write a short piece (on your ideas, interests or background, for example). For some programmes, your understanding of English or your numeracy skills will be assessed. For others, you could be asked to produce some of your own work, such as photographs or artwork. On all programmes you will be interviewed before being offered a place. If you are a UK student planning to study a higher education course offered through the University of Portsmouth, you may be eligible for a tuition fee loan from Student Finance England to cover the cost of your course. Tuition Fee Loan Tuition fees in 2020/21 are set out under each course. These are considerably less than what you would pay if studying the same qualification at a University campus. You can apply for a tuition fee loan to cover your fees. This loan is not income-assessed and is paid directly to the University. Repaying your Loan Student loan repayments are based on how much you earn, not how much you borrowed. Undergraduate students will repay 9% of any income over £25,725 (gross) per year. This covers both Tuition Fee and Maintenance Loans so you only make one monthly repayment. Any outstanding loans that have not been repaid after thirty years from the April after you graduate are written off regardless of how much you have repaid. If your income drops below the threshold (£25,725) at any point during the thirty year repayment period you will stop making repayments. If you are paid through PAYE your repayments will be automatically deducted from your wages by your employer. If you are self-employed you can make repayments directly to the Student Loans Company, these are calculated as part of your tax return.STUDENT FINANCE 21 STUDENT FINANCE Visit: stanmore.ac.uk Call: 020 8420 7700 How to work out your monthly repayment amount: 1.Take your annual taxable income (before tax) and deduct £25,275 2.Work out 9% of the remainder 3.Divide that figure by 12 4.Round to the nearest pound For example: 1.Gross salary = £27,000 2.Minus £25,725 threshold = £1,275 3.9% of £1,275 = £114.75 4.Divide by 12 months = £10 per month How to apply How you apply depends on whether you have studied before and your nationality.
