The NCFE Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is designed for those who are currently teaching or wish to pursue a teaching role in the further education and skills sector. This qualification provides you with the knowledge and skills needed to teach in a variety of settings, focusing on practical teaching experience and preparing you for the demands of the profession. This course is ideal if you’re starting a career in teaching or training, looking to progress in your current role, or have completed prior qualifications like the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. You’ll explore essential topics such as understanding learners, professional teaching practices, and effective digital and online pedagogies.

The programme requires a minimum of 250 placement hours, with at least 150 hours of teaching practice. This includes teaching your subject area, remote delivery, and other professional activities such as planning, team meetings, and CPD. You’ll gain experience in at least two teaching locations and complete a minimum of 10 assessed observations. To achieve the qualification, you must earn 120 credits, including 75 from mandatory units and 45 from optional units. At least 61 credits must be at Level 5 or higher. Mandatory units cover teaching methods, understanding learners, the role of teachers, professional practice, and digital pedagogy. Optional units allow you to tailor your learning to your interests, such as action research or specialist delivery techniques.

By completing this qualification, you’ll develop the competence, confidence, and skills to teach effectively and meet the needs of a diverse range of learners, preparing you for a rewarding career in education.

Why do this course?

Learners who achieve this qualification can progress to employment opportunities across various sectors, including further education colleges, adult and community education providers, offender education programmes, work-based learning providers, the third/voluntary sector, and independent training organisations. Additionally, you may pursue higher education to further enhance your teaching expertise. Upon completion, you can also apply for Qualified Teacher: Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, which is equivalent to but distinct from Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) typically required for teaching in schools for ages 5-11 or 11-18.
