Why do this course?
Advance to the second year of the Extended Diploma to achieve the equivalent of 3 A levels and position yourself for university success. Completing the Extended Diploma will equip you with essential skills and a standout portfolio to apply for degree programmes in Architecture, Art, and Design. We’ll guide you through building a compelling portfolio, acing your interview, and making a strong UCAS application. You’ll gain a competitive edge in securing your place in top programs, students have secured places in prestigious degree courses across various creative fields. Alternatively, you’ll be well-prepared to enter directly into employment or pursue an apprenticeship. Entry Requirements
You will need 4 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A-C), including English Language and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above. Alternatively, you can have a relevant UAL or BTEC Level 2 Diploma at a Merit grade or equivalent qualification. -
Assessment
Both the Diploma (first year) and Extended Diploma (second year) are assessed at the end of the course. In the Diploma, you will use everything you’ve learned in Units 1 and 2 to complete a final project set by your tutors. In the Extended Diploma, you will apply your knowledge from Units 1 to 5 to complete a self-directed project that showcases your creative process in your chosen area of focus. Throughout the course, you will receive regular written feedback to help you achieve your full potential.

Materials
You will need to purchase sketchbooks for your units and a range of art materials throughout the year. There will also be a fee for museum visits organised by the department.

Facilities
Our Art and Design department is a vibrant, creative space with two large, light-filled studios designed to inspire your artistic journey. You’ll have access to a wide range of industry-standard equipment, including a kiln for ceramics, a laser cutter, a 3D printer, iPads, and essential woodworking tools, providing everything you need to bring your boldest ideas to life.
