Proud to Care Celebration Event 30 January 2019 04/02/2019
The first Celebration Event for North West London was held on 30th January 2019, at Stanmore College.
We had partners from the Councils, Care Providers, NHS, Colleges and Job Centre Plus as well as 'I Care' ambassadors.
Chris Doherty delivered a PowerPoint presentation of the ‘Journey so far’ and how we can move forward with this project, and expand to the other boroughs in North West London.
Brian Waldron, one of the first to join Skills for Care /Proud to Care gave a personal account of his journey as an Ambassador. He stated how he enjoyed the role of the ICA, talking honestly to students, and how supportive teaching staff were... also the importance of joining forces with the teaching staff, as both were committed in raising awareness in the Sector.
He also stated how much pride he had in wearing the ‘Proud to Care’ badge, not only to events, but at his work, to help raise interest, awareness and a point of conversation. Brian explains to prospective candidates that there are good days and bad days in Health and Social care and how, without realising it, we tend to use the skills of a Care Professional in our everyday lives e.g. looking after family.
Giedra Lukminaite, from Harrow Council, has used ICAs for Harrow Careers Fairs and Workshops and gave her feedback. She found the ICAs to be useful in bringing awareness and an understanding of the Sector. So far the feedback has been positive and she wants to continue to build relationships with ICAs and continue to have them attend events.
Certificates were given out the employers followed by Silver and Bronze Awards to 'I Care' ambassadors.
Followed by lunch and networking.
